Our last tee release bigged up the Chicago boys and their role in the birth of acid house so now it’s time for Detroit, which means……. TECHNO. Detroit during the late 80s and early 90s is seen by many to be the birthplace of the genre. Look no further than Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May otherwise known as The Belleville Three as the proponents of all things techno, or at least Detroit Techno.
The focus of this release though is on a sub genre of that scene, Ghettotech, a mix of house, techno, electro, glitch and hip hop with the addition of a few more bpm – typically 145-170. Jit is the name of the dance that these cats have mastered for their scene – quick footwork, groundwork, body popping – as long as you keep up with the beat.
The Jitters below do their thing to the backdrop of a tune that couldn’t possibly be more apt – Detroit’s own The Aztec Mystic (aka DJ Rolando) with “Knights of the Jaguar”. Enjoy.
